Our Story
At Portworks Wine Lounge by Heringer Estates, we craft distinctive ports and wines that celebrate the land, the people, and the traditions that make great wine possible. From bold, small-batch fortified wines to vibrant still and sparkling varietals, every bottle reflects our commitment to quality, sustainability, and connection.
How We started
Originally founded in 1994 as Sonoma Portworks by Bill and Caryn Reading, our Petaluma tasting room quickly became known as Sonoma County’s only dedicated port winery. Over the decades, Bill and Caryn built a beloved local community centered winery, crafting award-winning ports with a focus on balance, creativity, and hospitality.
Became More than Just Port
In 2025, the Readings entrusted the next chapter of Sonoma Portworks to their longtime friends at Heringer Estates, a family-owned winery rooted in generations of sustainable farming in Clarksburg. With deep gratitude and care, the winery was reimagined as Portworks by Heringer Estates, bringing together the best of both legacies.
Portworks Today
Today, Portworks proudly serves not only our signature fortified ports, but also sparkling wines, still wines, wine slushies, and non-alcoholic wines. All made from sustainably grown, estate-farmed grapes from the Heringer family vineyards.
These grapes are certified sustainable through Lodi Rules and Protected Harvest, reflecting our shared commitment to stewardship and thoughtful winemaking
