2006 Varietal Ports
Single varietal. Single vintage. Single vineyard.
Petite Sirah
The grapes for this hand (and foot)-crafted port were grown in the Clarksburg area along the northern Sacramento River by the Heringer family. The Heringers have been farming their land for six generations and deliver beautiful fruit to our cellar year after year.
Petit Verdot
The Romingers are another proud California agricultural family. Their vineyard is located in western Yolo County along the foothills that separate Yolo and eastern Napa counties. They, too, produce clean, ripe fruit.
The grapes from both vineyards were picked in the early morning hours and brought to our cellar cool. After two days of cold soaking for color extraction, we began fermentation. When the grape sugars reached 9%, we began foot pressing. Our unique foot press allows the juice to run freely, and what remains in the skins is gently pressed to avoid extracting unwanted tannins. Once fortified, the port was placed in small, neutral oak casks for extended aging.
